Fire Risk Appraisal of External Walls (FRAEW) Surveys
The tragic fire at the Grenfell Tower demonstrated what can go wrong when a fire attacks the wrong choice of external cladding and the method of installation is incorrect.
We at TFC are able to carry out external wall surveys to ascertain the type of materials used and thier combustibility, method of attachment, establish if fire cavity barriers and fire breaks have been instaled and correctly, and provide advice on the affect the materials would have when looking at fire spread and the risk to life. It is part of the Building Safety Act and the Fire Safety Act that external walls and any other attachments i.e. Balconies etc, are assessed as part of a buildings Fire Risk Assessment (FRA), both of these can be carried out at the same time or individualy.
When carrying out the FRAEW survey and producing the report. We follow the guidance given in PAS 9980:2022.
The FRAEW process is complex and should only be carried out by experienced contractors.
